What mentoring means to me

When I first started out as a mentor my primary objective was to give back utilising my time and effort but I did not realise how much I'd be getting back from the experience. Mentoring is not just about talking to someone and helping them achieve their goals but rather taking the time to nurture and be caring enough to do it whole heartedly knowing you are making a positive difference in a persons life ,that is a priceless experience. Mentoring has taught me to listen more actively, it has strengthened my interpersonal relationship skills, encourages the sharing of knowledge and has led to a sense of personal satisfaction. I would strongly urge people to take on the mentoring role as we set a ripple in motion helping breed the culture of giving back.
